50/50 are a group of artists and photographers who live and work in the Hampshire and New Forest area.

Exhibiting at Hillier Gardens for over 13 years

Each artist and photographer works throughout the year, using their individual skills to interpret the world around them and create compelling visual stories. This dedication creates a unique spectrum of bold brush strokes and striking compositions brought together in one annual 50/50 exhibition.

Gill Brophy

Artist

Gill has been drawing, painting and experimenting with paper and fabric since childhood making bright and vibrant work with shapes and materials beyond the usual. This approach results in exciting and unique pieces of art

Roy Brophy

Photographer

Roy has been a keen photographer since boyhood and enjoys the technical and artistic techniques available in the modern Digital Darkroom. Linking with his practical skills Roy enjoys the creative buzz from taking photographs through to printing, mounting and bespoke framing.

Kev Sandall

Photographer

Award winning photographer Kev excels at creating beautiful images of people, landscapes and wildlife. Running his own framing business gives him an end-to-end process resulting in bespoke, beautifully presented work. Kev runs local workshops to encourage and support new photographers.

Barry Fry

Artist

Barry takes inspiration from a range of settings including rural, coastal and urban scenes - exploring with light, tone and texture. Some observers have described his work as expressive semi-abstract - trying to see beyond the obvious.

Rachel Chappell

Photographer & Artist

Rachel has been a keen photographer of flowers for many years, often presenting award winning close-up and abstracted images. Her recent work has seen her take abstraction and colour exploration into the world of paint, resulting in bright, semi-disrupted paintings.

Linda Penny

Artist

Linda finds inspiration wherever light creates intriguing shapes and colours; often found in overlooked elements of the environment. Through the medium of pastel she loves the challenge of translating that inspiration into a painting for others to look at.

Catherine Wharton

Photographer & Artist

Catherine loves experimenting with many forms of art and photography. She is very much inspired by the natural world, especially in gardens, and uses this inspiration to create pieces that celebrate the colour and pattern she sees around her.

Brian Whittaker

Photographer

Brian enjoys exploring a range of photographic styles. Having started his photographic journey a few years ago with a more traditional landscape focus he now increasingly enjoys uncovering shapes and tones in creating more abstract images.
